Cool character, although, her outfit doesn't really seem iconic or like it'd be her trademark. Not sure why that is. Perhaps it's just a bit plain?
I like the hair, though, it's got an interesting style and looks like it'd show up well when silhouetted.

BryanV responds:

Thanks. Yeah I really didn't put a lot of effort on her outfit it was like: "dark coat, pants done."

Holy shit! This is pretty incredible. Some really striking shading, and tons of little details that make it interesting to look at. I love pieces like this.

The one little nitpick I have, however, is how it's cropped on the left side. I feel like it would look so much better without part of the Octopus' head being cropped off like that.
Aside from that, though, this is fantastic! Great stuff. :)

SourCherryJack responds:

Thank you for the review and the praise on the detail, much appreciated. The unfortunate cropping is indeed bothersome but unfortunately it is exactly as it appears on the paper. On the final sketch that I used as the base for the octopus was smaller and made for a weaker composition overall; so I made it bigger but that meant it had to go off the page. So yeah I wish I had the foresight to use a bigger sheet of paper or shrink the drawing, but hey, lesson learned the next time. Glad you like it!

This is pretty cool, I like her hairstyle. Also, the minimal color palette gives the whole thing a really striking look. Also, there's a nice contrast between the details of the characters and the minimalistic background. Nice work!

Haris responds:

thanx :)

This is super cute, and everything about it is really nicely done. The lines are really nice, and I love how things flow from panel to panel. The subtle color is also really effective.

As for the comments below, about converting it to a gif... why not just convert it to png? that'll give you better colors than a gif, and it also won't be compressed & artifacted to all hell like a jpeg would be.

Morthagg responds:

Yeah, good point. I used to convert it to .png, actually. And to .gif again. And to jpeg. I don't really know why I change, but next time I work with soft colours I'll probably try a .png again :D
Thanks!

Man! Those character designs are quality!
Really great, really expressive, and really nice lines!
The sense of motion is great, and the colors are vibrant, nice, and go together well.

I think the flat-shading is really nice, and works well... however, as others have said, I think the soft-shading looks out of place. At least on the characters, themselves. The soft shading for the lighting effects on the ceiling work nicely, I'd say.
Really hope you decide to animate this at some point. Hell, if you need anybody to do some in-betweens, I'll be willing to volunteer my time and help you out. That's just how impressed I am!

BryanV responds:

Thanks! Yeah I think I'll eventually make this an internet show or something. I don't want to save it for too long.

I really like the coloring and shading. Also, the general layout is really cool.
I'm not really a fan of anime-inspired character design, but they work well enough for what you were trying to accomplish.
I think the pose for the girl in the middle is alright, but it also seems a little robotic and unnatural looking.
I think the weakest part of this piece, though, would be the linework. All of the lines seem really uniform. That is, they all seem to be the same exact thickness. There's no variation. They don't look like pen or brush strokes, they look like they were carefully and precisely placed, and this makes the entire image feel kind of lifeless as a result.

Still, I generally like the composition here. Also, that cibo matto shirt! <3
I just think if you changed a few minor things, it could take your art from "good" to "great". Hope this helped! :D

AstroUniverse responds:

Oh of course i understand what you are saying completely! I mean this is before i got a new art program.. it was done in paint tool sai and for some odd reason i wasnt getting pen pressure so instead of having those lovely strokes of different sizes i was stuck with the basic lines from the tools within sai.

And i agree with you it could be different, to be honest i was wanting to redo it anyhow now that i have this new program that actually allows me pen pressure xD. Thank you for your review i appreciate your help :).

I don't really know what I'm looking at... I see a man, who's also a guitar... and some kind of odd growth sticking out the side of it (him?)
I also thought the pickup looked like a file cabinet for a good 30 seconds or so, with the cable that's plugged in looking like a lamp of some kind.

In any case, despite having a somewhat difficult time understanding it, this is fucking cool as fuck!

EasyEvil responds:

Art is weird, man. Thanks for the kind words :)

I jam... vigorously.
